Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have hearnt in the progression from it to full project?

Since editing our preliminary exercise in October 2011 we have learnt about many different things that have influenced us to make our final project.

Camera Work:
In our preliminary we only knew about the 180 degree rule, match on action amd shot/reverse shot. Since then we have learned about loads of different camera shots, angles and movements. In our production we tried to use as many as possible.

This is an example of a high angle, establishing wide shot. This is used to set the scene and allow the views to know the location of the scene.

This is Match On Action, which is what we learned before completing our preliminary, We still used this in our final production. 

Editing 

This is the editing program on the computer we used to put together our final production. We practiced using effects and cutting and putting this together on this program.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

This is Elle Marriott; she’s a 17 year old girl from Peterborough. Elle is a student studying her A-Levels at her local school where she has attended since the beginning of secondary school.

Throughout school Elle’s interests and hobbies have remained the same. She is a very keen dancer and very enthusiastic about sport. Being a dancer Elle listens to a wide range of music to suit her different dance styles. This would mean that Elle would be a fan of the music in our production. The music relates to our audience in the sense that it is a current song which is quite popular with many people, and it also has a lot of emotion behind the lyrics which can relate to teenagers going through similar problems.

In Elle’s spare time she likes to go out with her friends and chill out. Her friends share the same taste in music and films and always watch their favourite productions together.

Some of Elle’s favourite films range from loads of different genres. She likes comedy films like ‘Step-brothers’ and ‘the hangover’ but she also like Rom-Com’s like ‘John Tucker must die’. Elle is also interested in social films which represent class within schools for people similar to her age like ‘Mean Girls’ and ‘Angus, thongs and perfect snogging’.

Our media production is similar to the films Elle likes which is why we are targeting her as one of our primary viewers, other people with the same interests and hobbies as Elle will also be interested.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

We all thought about different things we could call our production company and then we sat down and discussed which one was the best and that’s when we chose ‘Film Star Productions’. We wanted our production name to be a catchy one so it stands out to the right audience. We got our inspiration from big film companies like ‘20^th century fox’. A production company is the one who produces the films. The more well known companies to produce your film mean more people will be intrigued to watch it. The money we would have raised for our film to be produced and distributed could be through promotions. Promoting our film to see if anyone is interested. We could do surveys in the street to get research on what the public would think to our film and what sort of films they would like to see, this is so we can make our film appealing to them. Our film is institutionally similar to other romance/comedy films produced by the ‘20^th century fox’ because that is what we are aiming our production company to be similar to. It’s institutionally similar to films such as ‘Where the heart is’ and ‘John tucker must die’.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

We have found a similarity to Gina in John Tucker Must Die. John tucker is a love rat who likes to play girls and can never stick to one girl. In the film the girls are trying to get him back and the only way they can do this is revenge. This links to our film because Gina dumps Joe and Joe then wants to get Gina back because she has dumped him for another boy. It also links because it is to do with being in a relationship with someone However, there are a few differences in this, these are that Gina is a girl and John is a boy. Also, the girls are trying to get John back because he went out with all of them at the same time, whereas Joe just wants to get back at Gina because she has found someone else while she was with him.  But it still fits because it is about being in a relationship with someone and it not working out.

This film would mainly be suited for girly girls; this is because it’s all about romance and boys and stereotypically you wouldn’t really see goth/emo going to watch this film because usually they are not into love and ‘cute’ films, its more about a horror kind of movie. However in some cases this could be suited for boys if they were looking for some inspiration on what to do, meaning they could be in this kind of situation themselves. However most girls like watching them because they could also relate to them and because they enjoy watching them.

Question 1

 

Our opening sequence consists of a typical teenage lifestyle: young relationships, being upset, having fun and the typical home life. Ours start sequence is different to other romance/comedies because it tries not to give to much away it will give you the typical story line, but it doesn't tell you the whole story in the first two minutes. The title of the film comes up last in the opening because watching the 1st few minutes intrigues you but also leaves you hanging because you don't have any idea what the films called or about, but as the title comes up you can understand whats going to happen, without giving away the full story. The costumes we picked are made to be up to fashion so that the teenagers today can relate to these characters. We have used a minimum amount of edits in the opening sequence so it doesn't jump through the whole begining but gives enough edits to get the understanding across to the audience. The characters are introduces right from the start as Joe and Georgina (our main characters) are the 1st to appear on screen so you get the understandind straight from the start. Our genre is romcom and our opening clearly states that with the two being all loved up and then suddenly being apart, followed by our title later on 'Karma'.
